BRYAN, TEXAS--- KBTX Media and Gray Television announce that KBTX News 3 will be the first Brazos Valley television station to broadcast their live and local newscasts in High Definition.  The official launch was Monday, October 10th.

The first newscast to be broadcast in HD was First News at Four, a thirty minute newscast that focuses on one of the leading news stories of the day. KBTX produces six LIVE newscasts Monday through Friday and three newscasts each weekend, all of which are also streamed live at kbtx.com.

“The Brazos Valley is one of the fastest growing regions in Texas and deserves the latest in HD technology.  KBTX has been partners with this area since 1957 and will always work to improve the product we air,” said Mike Wright, Vice-President and General Manager of KBTX.

As part of this continuing process, KBTX Media installation of a state of the art working newsroom is underway, soon followed by construction of a new on-air set for news, sports, interview set, and an expanded weather center.  The remodel is in partnership with Kent Moore Cabinets. The new digital studios will allow KBTX News 3 to operate from one of Texas’ premiere broadcast facilities while providing viewers with an unsurpassed quality of picture in High Definition.  KBTX Media and Gray Television partnered with Kent Moore Cabinets because of their dedication to quality and excellence.

“It is always important to do business locally whenever possible, and this project seemed to be a perfect fit for Kent Moore,” Wright said.  “Gray Television was highly supportive of this innovative design, entrusting this build-out to a local company.”

Completion of the new digital studio is expected by the end of the year.  “Kent Moore Cabinets has been extremely helpful with this new and innovative design which not only enhances the on-air look, but also gives us a more efficient design in the working newsroom.

For nearly 55 years, KBTX News 3 has provided local news, weather, sports and information to Bryan-College Station and the Brazos Valley.  In 1983, a new transmitter and tower were installed in Grimes County resulting in a greatly expanded coverage area.  KBTX began broadcasting network programming in high definition in 2003, followed by the full transition to digital broadcasting in 2009 which expanded the coverage area yet again.  Syndicated programming and commercials were made available in high definition in 2010.  Wright added, “It is an exciting time for the KBTX family and for this growing region, especially to be part of the history of local technology.”

KBTX Media operates KBTX-CBS (Digital 50.1), KBTX-CW Texas (Digital 50.2), kbtx.com, mobilekbtx.com, and momseveryday.com/bcs.
